Grazing Along

This August and September have been great grass growing months. The cow herds and the sheep flocks are enjoying some great lush grass.

The sheep are grazing one of the fields we fed hay on last winter. This is the 3rd time its been grazed. We haven't mowed it with the tractor as you can see from the brown seed heads still standing from earlier in the summer. I think I'll skip mowing it this year. I don't like to clip fields in September as it is one our most important grass growing months. Clipping tends to set back the grasses regrowth a bit. It does help control weeds and makes for a higher quality pasture for the next grazing.
